TEATROCINEMA is one of the fundamental companies in the Chilean theater scene. Its origins date to the 1980s, with the inception of La Troppa Company, creating unforgettable pieces, like Gemelos (1999), and Pinocchio (1990). In 2005, two of its members, Laura Pizarro and Juan Carlos Zagal, reestablish it under the name Teatrocinema, a multidisciplinary artistic collective that fuses in its language essential elements of theater, cinema and comics. From this period are the pieces Sin Sangre (2007), El Hombre Que Daba de Beber a las Mariposas (2010), Historia de Amor (2013), and La Contadora de Películas (2015). Teatrocinema has performed at the most renowned international venues and festivals in the global circuit, including the Avignon Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, the Lincoln Center, and the Odeon Theater, in Paris.

TEATROCINEMA es una de las compañías fundamentales del teatro chileno. Su origen se remonta a los años 80, cuando nace La Troppa, creando obras inolvidables como Gemelos (1999), y Pinocchio (1990). En 2005, dos de sus integrantes, Laura Pizarro y Juan Carlos Zagal refundan la compañía como Teatrocinema, en cuyo lenguaje se funden elementos del teatro, el cine y el cómic. De esta etapa surgen Sin sangre (2007), El hombre que daba de beber a las mariposas (2010), Historia de amor (2013), y La contadora de películas (2015). Teatrocinema se ha presentado en los teatros y festivales internacionales más destacados del circuito mundial, incluyendo el Festival de Avignon, el Festival de Edimburgo, el Lincoln Center y el Teatro Odeón de París.

Juan Carlos Zagal studied Dramatic Arts Performance at the Theatre Academy of the Catholic University of Chile, graduating as an actor in 1987. He co-founded the La Troppa Company with Laura Pizarro and Jaime Lorca that same year. Together they wrote, directed, produced and played El Santo Patrono, Salmon-Vudu, Rap del Quijote, Pinocchio, Lobo, Viaje al Centro de la Tierra, Gemelos and Jesus Betz. In 2006, he co-founded the new Company, Teatrocinema, and participated in the creation of Sin Sangre (2007) and The Man Who Fed Butterflies (2010), The Movie Storyteller (2015), El Sueño de Mó (2018) and Plata Quemada (2019).

In April 2018 staged Das Lied von der Erde, by Gustav Mahler, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and LA Phill at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

With their plays they toured worldwide, performing at the most important festivals, such as Avignon, Edinburgh Festival, and main stream venues, such as the Lincoln Arts Center of New York, Théâtre de la Ville and Odeón in France.

Zagal (Juan Carlos Zagal) estudió actuación en la Escuela de Teatro de la Universidad Católica de Chile, graduándose como actor en 1987. Ese mismo año junto a Laura Pizarro y Jaime Lorca, co funda la Compañía de teatro La Troppa. Juntos escribieron, dirigieron, produjeron y montaron El Santo Patrono, Salmon-Vudu, Rap del Quijote, Pinocchio, Lobo, Viaje al Centro de la Tierra, Gemelos y Jesus Betz. El 2006 junto a Laura Pizarro co funda una nueva compañía TEATROCINEMA, comenzando inmediatamente la creación de un nuevo lenguaje teatral con la obra Sin Sangre (2007), El Hombre que Daba de beber a las Mariposas (2010), Historia de Amor (2013), La Contadora de Películas (2015), El Sueño de Mó (2018) y Plata Quemada (2019).

En abril 2018 estrena la puesta en escena El Canto de la Tierra, de Gustav Mahler, bajo la conducción de Gustavo Dudamel con la Filarmónica de Los Angeles en el Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Con sus obras, la compañía ha recorrido el mundo entero, en largas giras que los han llevado por prestigiosos escenarios como el festival de Avignon en Francia, el Festival de Edimburgo, y los principales teatros, como el Lincoln de Nueva York, Théâtre de la Ville y Teatro Odeon en Francia.
