FEATURING

The Angkor Dance Troupe was founded in 1986 by a group of Cambodian refugees with a passion for Khmer performing arts. They came together in Lowell, Massachusetts with the sole purpose to revive a culture once almost lost. Our mission is to connect communities through the preservation, education, and innovation of Cambodian Performing Arts. As the heart of the Cambodian Community, the Angkor Dance Troupe is nationally recognized as one of the most accomplished and experienced U.S.-based Cambodian traditional arts organizations.

Princess Moon is a Cambodian-American poet, teaching artist, and award-winning community organizer. Her work unearths conversations with ancestral spirits, exposes trauma left by the ghosts of violent men, and explores the hauntingly beautiful journey of finding one's self. She was the first woman SlamMaster to the Mill City Slam and formerly served as the Program Director of the non- profit youth organization FreeVerse! She has graced the Finals stage of the 2011 Brave New Voices as well as the 2012 and 2013 Louder Than A Bomb Massachusetts. In 2014, she coached the winning team of the Louder Than A Bomb Massachusetts competition and received the Charmaine Santiago Galdon award for her tireless community building. Her shadow theatre plays have been featured at the WhiteHaus festivals BLASTFEST8 (2015) and BLAST FEST NEIN (2016). Her poetry is published in Gateways Magazine, Young Angel Midnight: An Anthology of Emerging Artists, grumpy shower, and more. You can find her first published full-length collection of poetry in her book The Genocide's Love Baby Learns to Sing (Bootstrap Press).

Flying Orb Productions was founded in 2005 by James Higgins and two principal dancers from the Angkor Dance Troupe, Monica Veth and Sophy Leng. Based in Lowell, Massachusetts, home to the 2nd largest Cambodian/American community in the country, Flying Orb's films and theater work deal with the legacy of America's war in Southeast Asia. From the beginning our motto has been “out of the darkness, into the light”. Performances are co-directed by Peter Veth and Jim Higgins. In 1969, President Nixon and Henry Kissinger embarked on a covert bombing campaign in Cambodia and Laos called Operation Menu. In the process of trying to drive out the Viet Cong, Operation Menu killed thousands of civilians and ultimately destabilized Cambodia, opening the door for the Khmer Rouge take over. Many of Flying Orb's films and plays performed by Southeast Asian / Americans are about the residual effects of those secret bombing missions. Resident Alien, a new Flying Orb production, brings us full circle with Cambodian / Americans being uprooted from their families and deported back to Cambodia.
